When I buy clothes, I tend to shop one of two ways. There are the statement pieces that I fall in love with and just have to buy – even if they don’t go with anything else in my wardrobe and even if I don’t have anywhere immediately in mind to wear them.
I try to minimize these purchases because they aren’t always the most practical, but they are worth the investment because they are so unique or interesting that they give my wardrobe more flavor.
For the most part, I try to have a couple ways to wear a piece already in mind before I buy something. I love having a versatile wardrobe that I can transition from work to evening or casual situations. It’s with this philosophy in mind that I bring you today’s post.
I am already in fall mode when it comes to my wardrobe, and the weather has actually been cooperating well enough to allow me to start wearing some of my new fall pieces in transitional looks.
The first two outfits are both recent work looks. I have been looking for black pinstripe pieces for a couple years, longing for pinstripes done up in non-traditional ways. This two-piece set from ELOQUII is definitely in the vein of what I have been craving.
It’s also one of my favorite petite life hacks. I love the look of jumpsuits, but it’s hard to find jumpsuits that will work well for me as a petite, even after a lot of alterations. Matching sets like this create the look of a jumpsuit without the usual fit problems. Plus, it’s a lot easier to use the bathroom!!! haha
Since the top is a crop top, I tucked it into the high-waist pants to create the jumpsuit look and keep the outfit conservative enough for work. A blazer and large satchel add professional polish.
For today’s second look, I styled these track pants from Who What Wear x Target. These pants are a cool hybrid between a trouser and a casual track pant. For work, I wanted to minimize the casual feel by creating a streamlined look. I added a tucked-in camisole and soft stone trench.
My son’s school colors are black and red, and he is on the football team this year. Since his first game was on the day I wore these track pants to work, I decided to transition the pants to a much more casual look for the game. I added a white muscle tee and sneakers. The bomber jacket was a great choice to stave off the evening chill. I just love how comfortable these pants are, and I am sure to be wearing these a ton this fall for both work and weekend/casual settings.
Speaking of casual…the pinstripe outfit from the first look is a medium weight knit with just enough stretch. The joggers are amazingly comfortable, so why not wear them all day?
Transitioning the work look above for dinner or drinks was as simple as removing the blazer and adding a fun statement clutch. I let the crop top actually be a crop top to create a sexier, more casual vibe.
How much does versatility factor into your purchasing decisions?
P.S. I apologize for my longer-than-usual absence from the blog! Life has been hella busy as of late! One of the things I have been doing is this fun #BodyTalkVlog with Ebbi Nicole of Fluffy GRL Movement! Watch our conversation about how to maximize your quirk! Hope you enjoy!
