From the moment that I saw the news of a collaboration between Victoria Beckham and Target, I was super excited. I was also not disappointed when I saw the pieces. I certainly didn’t like everything, but there were a few pieces that I truly loved, and that is something that I haven’t seen from a collab in quite a while. One of the pieces that caught my attention immediately was this dress with the gorgeous calla lily print on the black background. Calla lilies are my favorite flower – I even carried them at my wedding. This dress reminded me of the dramatic but very disappointing maxi dress from the Altuzarra collab. Thankfully, this Victoria Beckham dress is so much better! The dress is well-constructed in a great mid-weight knit. The flounce hem is particularly cute and gives the dress a special touch.
For reference, I’m wearing the 1X, though based on other reviews I have seen, I may have been able to size down to an XL. Alterations to this dress were minimal. I had the shoulders taken up, but otherwise, I made no changes. With the shoulders taken up, I found the length to be just right for me.
I can really see myself wearing this dress quite a bit for a lot of different situations, so for today’s Shop Your Closet, I decided to style it up four different ways: an evening option, two work looks, and lastly, a casual look.
Probably true to my nature to want to get dressed up, the first look I thought of for this dress was to pair it for evening with simple strappy heels, dramatic tassel earrings, and my favorite vintage jade jewelry. I went with a lace clutch to create even more of an evening feel.
Last week, I tried my new dress out for work by pairing it with white mules and a soft stone-colored trench. I really like how the lighter colors of the jacket and shoes brighten up the dress and make it feel so spring-y.
The only problem with this look is that the gorgeous flower gets covered up! So, since I don’t really like baring my arms at work (and workplace temperatures usually necessitate layers), I wanted to come up with an alternative layering method. I paired the dress with a striped button-down top and black mules for a preppy look that will be great for work.
For the last styling of this dress, I wanted to give it a more casual feel. Espadrilles and a straw statement bag are daytime-ready. I think this look would be great for a weekend brunch al fresco. I love that it feels summery and not too fussy.
