Road Trip, Part 1

I am so sorry to have been away from the blog for so long.  Sadly, last minute, rush-rush wedding planning took its toll, and I wasn’t able to get a reserve of posts done in time for my trip/honeymoon.

For those of you not connected with me on social media, the man and I got married last Sunday!!

I’ll be sharing many more wedding pics soon, but this is one of my favorites so far!!

Our wedding was planned around the fact that the hubs and I were already planning a weekend trip to Chicago the following weekend for a gastroenterology conference he was attending.  Romantic, huh?

We decided to take the entire week off from our respective jobs and to plan our wedding for the weekend before, which meant we had about a month or so to plan.  For about the first two weeks, our conversations about wedding planning looked a lot like this:

     “What should we do?”
     “Get married.”
“No sh*t! Where should we do it?”
     “I don’t know.”
     “I don’t know either.”

After over eight years together, we just wanted to be married, and we finally pulled it together in our usual chaotic fashion.

After the wedding, we set out for Wisconsin.  We decided to kill sometime before the conference by going up to the Wisconsin Dells, where we walked around the shops and gambled quite a bit at the Ho-Chunk Casino.  We also stopped for a photo op with this cow just hanging out on the street. 😉

Camisole and Cardigan:  LOFT
Necklace and cuff:  The Limited
Booties:  Target

Unfortunately, we forgot our camera, so we have had to rely on our cell phones for pics – definitely not the best in the dark!

One of the main reasons for heading up to Wisconsin was to try Rocky Rococo pizza.  For me, it was this amazing pizza I remembered as a kid, and years ago, I was telling the man about how delicious it was only to discover that it still existed!  Back in the day, there were Rocky Rococo pizzerias around the St. Louis area.  Those were long gone, but I learned that they were still open in Wisconsin, where Rocky Rococo originated.

Being a major pizza connoisseur, I had half-jokingly talked about making a trip to Wisconsin just for pizza ever since.  Well, we finally got there!

Sadly, the pizza didn’t quite live up to my memory of it.  I’m sure it was that combination of good pizza, a fun restaurant atmosphere (the restaurants had silly facts and pictures all over the walls), and family time that made the experience seem so much better than it was to me as an adult.

That said, I was glad to share the experience with my groom!

Whenever we take road trips, we like to stop at silly places, and this time we took a quick stop over to the Jelly Belly factory in Wisconsin where you can find every flavor of Jelly Bellys made!

The man loves buttered popcorn flavored, while I’m more of a sizzling cinnamon gal.  After stocking up (noticing a food theme for this trip?), we trekked on to sweet home Chicago.

We got to Chicago last night and decided to get a little dressed up for dinner at the Rosebud on Rush.  I wore my black culotte jumpsuit from eShakti, and threw on a moto jacket when the temps dropped a bit.

We still have a few days in Chicago, so I will be sharing some of my outfits from the rest of our road trip and makeshift honeymoon soon!
