Philomena + Ruth recently launched their brand new web site featuring their latest Fall/Winter 2017 collection, and they asked me to help get the word out on all their new products and their new site! After learning a little more about the philosophy behind this business and seeing the great items offered, I was genuinely happy to do so!
Based in the small town of Waterloo, IL, Philomena + Ruth is an independent boutique focused on community, sustainability, and social awareness. Owner Elizabeth Hahn named the boutique after her grandmothers, in honor of the community and tradition of family, small towns, and the handcrafting skills passed down from generation to generation.
The story of Philomena + Ruth is definitely something that drew me personally to this little shop. My maternal grandmother grew up in the small town of Waterloo. We lost her just over a year ago, but Elizabeth’s story reminded me of my own grandmother, the life lessons she taught me along the way, and the love of style that we shared. The site offers apparel for women, men, and children, up to a size XXL. They also offer the most adorable handmade goods, novelty gifts, home goods, and art. The pieces are handcrafted, unique, and perfect for sharing with friends and families.
I was able to try out a piece, and I fell in love with this cool bleached dyed crop sweatshirt from the web site. When I received the sweatshirt, I loved it even more. It kind of reminded me of something that would be included in one of Kanye West’s Yeezy collections, but for a fraction of the cost!
The sweatshirt was super soft and cozy – a real bonus since I received it while I was sick and just wanting to be comfortable. The fit was oversized, but not too large. For reference, I’m wearing the XXL.
It looks great with jeans, but I wanted to get a little more creative with styling. I decided to throw it on over a tunic and paired it with a pair of booties.
This was a perfect casual and comfortable look for hosting Thanksgiving dinner with the family. We actually had a fairly warm Thanksgiving, but had it been cooler, I would have layered the tunic and sweatshirt over a pair of faux leather leggings.
Since trying out this sweatshirt, I have been really excited to nab an additional piece or two from Philomena + Ruth and have been debating between a few pieces in my cart! I’m definitely thinking a piece in FRINGE!
Check out Philomena + Ruth for yourself, and if you fall in love with any of the handcrafted goodies like I did, simply use code NEWFREE through November 25th for free shipping on your order!
